EXPLANT SURGEONS

The names of these plastic surgeons from various countries around the world (scroll down the list to see all of the countries) have been recommended to be on this list by the thousands of women from the facebook group Breast Implant Illness and Healing By Nicole  who explanted with them and these surgeons are known to remove implants properly which means En Bloc/Total Capsulectomy.  However, please do your own careful research and due diligence on these surgeons through consults with them to ensure you will get a proper En Bloc/Total Capsulectomy explant.   Please choose a surgeon dedicated to removing all capsule tissue as removing capsule tissue will correlate with your recovery.

Please be advised this website has no relationship whatsoever with any of these plastic surgeons and no money, fees or compensation of any kind is paid by or collected from these surgeons in regard to this list.  This list of surgeons is comprised purely from recommendations by women from the facebook group who explanted with them and the women of the group are the ones that decide to add or subtract their own surgeon based on their good or bad experiences with them.

We welcome any feedback you may have about these plastic surgeons including adding your surgeon or removing your surgeon.

Hello thank you for your website.

I had saline implants done in 1994 at age 17, then one burst and I had gel replacements at about 23. I’m now 41 and have been battling multiple health issues including autoimmune diseases (Hashimotos etc). I’ve had them my whole adult life so I don’t know if they are contributing factor or not??

Would my implants be too hard to remove due to their age?

Also, I never had any breasts before & im concerned about the physiological issues if I’m disfigured after a surgery.

I’m new here, hoping you can guide me a little thank you so much

      Hi Georgie,
Both saline and silicone implants cause symptoms as you describe and they are not to old or to difficult to remove due to their age or condition. All implants can be removed safely and completely no matter their age if you choose a skilled and experienced surgeon in explantation. Most women are surprised by how good their breast look after explantation. After explant breasts do heal and fluff up. Hope this helps.

Hello. First let me say, I am a 55year old woman, mother of 5, grandmother of 6. I do not take surgery lightly. My youngest adult child is severly autistic, so I do not participate in facebook and social media. I do appreciate the world of info at my finger tips. It has helped me with so many things.
That being said. I came across this site and read what I could, not being on facebook.
I recently relocated from my native home of Colorado to Michigan. I had no idea where to begin my search for a plastic surgeon to remove Silimed implants placed in 2002, by a Plastic Surgeon in Colorado.
I saw two names in Michigan on your list. I read up on Dr. Amy DeRosa. Then my husband and I drove to her office to meet with her and her staff. After meeting with them, listening to the process and procedures, we felt confident enough to go ahead with the surgery.
Two days before my surgery her name dissappeared off the list. I was absolutely panicked.
I was more than nervous, fearful and any other adjective you can think of.
My family tried to calm me. I wanted to feel better. I knew that would only start to happen with the removal of these foreign bodies in my chest.
Dr. DeRosa and her staff were very professional and helpful. The hospital staff where the surgery was performed were absolutely wonderful. I could not have asked for a better experience.
Just 10 days after surgery and I look great. No need for a breast lift. She is a wonderful Doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Amy DeRosa.

I am the practice manager for Dr. Jennifer Harrington, a recommended explant surgeon for Minnesota. Our costs for explant surgery can range from $4500 to $6500 and take place in our AAAASF Accredited office-based operating room, B.LEV Surgery center. Would you kindly update our information? Thank you.

        Nicole,

Thank you for updating our information. Because I see other recommended surgeon’s saying so, it should also be noted that Dr. Harrington also performs the En Bloc procedure. See here from our website -https://www.harringtonplasticsurgery.com/surgical/breast-enhancement-surgery/breast-implant-removal/

Would you also add the En Bloc to our contact information? We are seeing better educated patients, thanks to your informative website!

Dr. John Hijjawi, in Utah, is the best! He listened, and agreed that my implants were probably causing my health issues. He was very thorough in removing the implant and capsule. He explained the exact procedure he would use, and it was right in line with everything that I had read. He also took more time with me, due to the fact that the previous plastic surgeon didn’t remove everything when he exchanged my silicone implants with saline implants. I thought the saline implants were supposed to be safe. Boy was I wrong!
Dr. Hijjawi’s staff is also very efficient and professional. They make you feel comfortable when you are dealing with a very uncomfortable situation.

On the Breast Implant Illness page of Nicole on Facebook there was a survey of some kind and there was a company that was trying to help women get their explants covered. This was the email of the man who wrote me back regarding clarification of my problem/situation with insurance. coverage.fa@center4research.org and his name is Farzana Akkas. Hello everyone,

I’m located in Ontario, Canada. I have been having escalating health problems over the last 10 years, that have really worsened since 2012. Last year a friend shared information on breast implant illness with and I was shocked to see that I am experiencing 95% of the many symptoms listed. My saline implants are now 15 years old (I’m 37). I immediately booked an appointment with my PS in Mississauga/Toronto to discuss my questions and concerns, only to be abruptly dismissed. I was told there is no scientific evidence to support this, made to feel like there is no possible connection and the rest of the appointment was very tense. I was also told that there is no reason for me to ever replace my existing implants. That breakdown of the bag is a myth and the only reason to replace them would be rupture, hardening, etc. This PC is on the recommended list. Don’t get me wrong, my implants are lovely… He is top of his field for breast augmentation. But based on the list of questions to ask during consults, and how my appt last year went – I’m not sure if he will be open/willing to swab for micro-organisms, etc. Which are obviously important. I am so sick of being ruled by “unexplainable” illness. 🙁 Are there any Ontario ladies out there willing to share good experiences with specific surgeons? Thanks. <3

    Hello,
Does the capsule or casing for saline P.I.P implants (from late November 2000) have industrial grade silicone as the other silicone implants? Is there a place to find a list of the chemicals used to manufacture the PIP casing made for saline implants? How toxic are the chemicals? Is there a requirement or legal / obligation for the physician to have notified patients with PIP saline implants of the high rupture rate and possible toxic exposure?

I am seeking help.. In Australia.
On the 05/01/17 I was told I have 2ruptured implants. Unfortunately I beleave this happened in a car accident in 1996. In NZ.
I had an ultrasound done on the 06/01/17. Which confirmed two chronic intra-capsule rupture and extra-capsular ruptured implants? And silicon infiltrate lymph nodes.

I’ was devastated.. Then I see.. This result refers to another result I had done on the 16/08/16.?? Stating exactly the same..?? Then on that ultrasound. It refers to another breast ultrasound done on the 15/06/12.. Which states.. Both breast prostheses suggestive of intracapsular rupture.in addition there is a focus of silicon which appears to have extruded from the implant.??? I’m totally in shock!!
They have known for 5 yrs and just told me!!

Iv been very unwell and they have removed my left parathyroids, and my Thymus, because it was very enlarged.
One yr ago.. I’ve been very sick ever since.
They have told me I have auto immune deases

I have just been referred to a Surgeon : Dr Saud Aziz Hamza.on 30/01/17.
Who I’m very uneasy about seeing, Because he was the referring Dr from 5years ago.!!’

Could you please help me?? Please… I don’t know who to trust.. Or where to turn to.. I need toxin reports done.. and some serous help and advice ..

      Hi Raewyn,
Oh my gosh, you have been completely mishandled for years and the silicone chemicals damaged your thymus and your parathyroids, they are known endocrine disruptors. I am so sorry you have experienced this. You have to explant properly which for ruptured silicone means an En Bloc/Total Capsulectomy explant. On my Explant Surgeon’s list on this website, there are plastic surgeons listed from Australia, please scroll down the list until you get to Australia, there are two surgeons listed from Western Australia. Dr. Chin from QLD gets high ratings from ladies that explant with him. You may want to consider him to remove your implants. In any event please ensure that your surgeon removes your implants En Bloc, completely removes all capsule tissue and checks your lymph nodes for silicone and removes any badly damaged lymph nodes. Come to the facebook group and we can direct you more there. Nicole

I am from Belgium and i don’t see any PS there. Do you have any recommendations of other woman here? Or can i take any PS, as long as he removes the implants and the capsule? Is it necessary that they are removed in 1 piece or may he do one after the other, but in the same operation? I’m afraid to make the wrong decision. It(‘s difficult to choose the “right” one!

      Hi Carine,
Look for a PS that will ideally remove the capsule and implant En Bloc (intact, as one unit) which is indicated for silicone and textured implant but if you cannot find that removing the implant and then the capsule will do. Whatever doctor you use, please ensure that he removes all of the capsule tissue. Nicole

I’ve come to the conclusion that I just must suck up the extra costs and travel. I’d rather that then have a doctor who doesn’t even believe in the illness & belittle me, operate on me just for the sake of staying local.

I have several large hernias that cause me pain & the surgeons have all stated they will need to use permanent sutures to repair them. I am concerned that permanent sutures will cause the same immune response as implants. Would you happen to know if this is true? What kind of sutures would be best to avoid an immune response? Thanks for any insight you can share!

My original PS is on the explant list of surgeons, but I am concerned to have him perform the explant. I just had surgery 2 weeks ago because I was having pain and he said it was from scar tissue…turns out it was a ruptured silicone implant!!! I didn’t know that until I woke up in recovery. I questioned him about silicone leaking and now from the rupture being throughout my body. He claims “no way”, there have been 1800 studies on the safety of these implants. I was upset that we had not had the conversation that if there was a rupture remove…yet I have concerns that he doesn’t think there is any danger so how proactive would he be at explant???? I am in Maryland and am looking for surgeon that will get this right the first time…I have already had a double mastectomy with expanders and then exchange to Mentor silicone implants 5 years ago…surgery 2 weeks ago to “fix” left implant. I am considering traveling to Dr. Barnett in FL because she takes my insurance and seems like the best choice??? I would love to stay closer to home but wonder if I can find someone with Dr Barnett’s expertise.

Hello! I am wondering if anyone that has used the dr in SAN Antonio would be willing to discuss their experience and also how they are feeling now after explant. Also, I have silicone implants and madetma slings after a double mastectomy as part of reconstruction. Has anyone else had explant procedure and used fat grafting as a means of reconstruction?

    Reply
    1. Naomi C

      Hi Priscilla,

I underwent breast fat grafting with one of the surgeons listed here and I am sad to report that I would not consider the surgery a success. The surgeon took the fat from my thighs via body-jet liposuction and inserted 230cc in each breast. The surgeon did explain before the surgery that not all the fat will ‘take’. However, it appeared to me that almost all the fat (definitely more than 90%) did not ‘take’ 6 months after the surgery. My chest size is the same pre-surgery now. At the same time, I am left with a lot of lumps which will need to be removed if they remain. There is also some loose skin on my chest area now due to skin stretching after the fat grafting. I felt a lot of pain after the surgery and my breasts had a lot of bruising. The sharp pangs in my breasts persisted for 2 months after the surgery. Please think twice before you get this procedure! It was a total waste of money and created problems I did not have before!

      Reply
        1. Naomi

          Dear Nicole,

I wish to state that fat grafting in general is an unpredictable procedure. A lot of surgeons often state that 20% – 60% of the fat will not ‘take’ but in reality this percentage could be a lot higher. The surgeon I chose has a lot of experience in performing this and theoretically, he did it the ‘right’ way. I went for this procedure under GA which should again, theoretically, produce a better result compared to LA as there is no ‘contamination’ of the fat with the LA as it would have been injected into the relevant areas before the fat transfer. Also, the fat was harvested via a gentler approach (body-jet liposuction) but even then, the procedure was not a success for me.

I have also gone for 2 sessions of fat grating to my face to fill in my sunken cheeks under LA with a different surgeon. Again, the fat ‘take’ was very little the first time around and slightly better the second time around. Even then, I will need a 3rd session as my cheeks are still sunken (albeit less). However, the pain from fat grating to my cheeks did not persist after the surgery and there were no lumps as it forms more easily in the breasts.

I will not get fat grating to my breast again because of 2 reasons – the extreme pain and cost. Firstly, the blunt cannula passes multiple times in and out of the breasts as the fat droplets need to be placed in a 3D matrix. Some people may tolerate pain better than me. As mentioned, I had sharp pangs in my breasts for 2 months after the surgery and it was quite intolerable and also a little dangerous, especially when I was driving. Secondly, the cost per session for fat grafting to the breast is on par or even more than breast implants. Most people will need at least 2 to 3 sessions to go up a cup size. If you are prepared to pay this amount (equivalent or more than 2 to 3 breast implant sessions), you may consider this surgery. At the same time, it is quite common to have lumps after the procedure. Some may disappear with time but some may remain like in my case. I suppose this is why fat grating does not have a high satisfaction rate on REALSELF. I hope this clarifies!

I’ve had my implants for a little over 2 years now, they are Silicone above the muscle. I got a cold last Nov. before then I had not gotten a cold for 6 years. I have been sick 10 of the last 12 months, doctors just give steroids and anti-bioltics. I just keep getting sicker. Previous to my implants I have not known auto-immune disorders. I’m having them removed! You have prices listed next to the recommended doctors, I’m curious as to what that price is or where it’s coming from? Thanks for the help and getting the message out there.

I think it will bee really expensive for me to have a surgery in Kanada or US. I have many bad symptoms and I have asked about two doctors here about this but they say that implants will not cost these issues..

      Hi Kim,
I know ladies that had a good experience with him and ladies who said he does not think it necessary to remove all capsule tissue. If you consult with him just make sure he is committed to removing all capsule tissue. Removing capsules correlates to recovery. Nicole

      Hi Areesha,
No we don’t have a surgeon yet for Jamaica. There may be one there though. You are looking for a surgeon that will perform En Bloc/Total Capsulectomy which means removing all the scar tissue that growns around the implant known as the capsules. Removing capsules correlates with recovery. Read all the pages of this website so you are well informed and know what you are looking for in a surgeon. Nicole

Hi, I am so thankful to have found this site and this list of surgeons. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis and all other kinds of symptoms alongside that were blamed on this disease about 1 1/2 years after getting saline implants…12 years later I ran across this info and though I live in Kansas City area, I used Dr. Ronald Bergman from Des Moines, IA. He was very compassionate, caring, and did a fantastic job. I would recommend him to anyone who needs this done. I am now over 2 months post op and am already completely off of my Lialda (colon meds) and symptom free!

      Hi Patricia,
Yes, some insurances do cover explant and you have to approach your doctor and get a letter recommending explanting on one of or a combination of these symptoms only: rupture, pain of the breast/chest/neck or back, capsular contracture of infection necrosis. Often pain is the best symptom to approach on. Insurance won’t cover any other symptoms and so don’t go into them. Often insurance will deny you first time around and you have to keep going and insist. I will send you the codes needed by your doctor. Nicole

My primary doesnt seem to believe me when I say I think its related to my implants so I feel all alone on this. I got them in 2011 and have been very sick. Autoimmune issues. Can someone send me the CPT codes so I can be prepared?

          Hi Alison,
Get a copy of your full insurance policy and read how you may be covered by insurance for explant. In general some insurance companies cover explant for medically approved reasons which are usually: rupture, capsular contracture, pain or infection necrosis. Some insurance policies have inclusions and some have exclusions for cosmetic purposes. There is more information about insurance on the Resources page of this website.

You have Dr. Moriah Moffitt listed as a recommended surgeon for explants in Floirda. While she is undoubtedly a competent surgeon, it is misleading to list her alongside other surgeons who are familiar with treating patients with “breast implant illness” and open to researching potential causes linked to saline breast implants. She does not advocate for having breast implants and the capsules tested, and in fact, claims that shipping to Dr. Blais in Canada is not only unnecessary but also impossible and potentially illegal.

I am scheduled to have 42 year old silicone implants removed in a few weeks. There is leakage in lymph nodes. To say the least I am concerned for the surgery and my frame of mine afterwards. The surgeon’s name is Dr. Keith Bush from St. Catharines ON, Canada. I have reviewed comments re him and they are mixed from excellent to poor on numerous surgery.
He is not on your list of recommended surgeons but is located in my city. Would you have any information on him or know where I can get further reviews rather then just comments on line?
I would appreciate more information re silicone explants ASAP as I am scheduled for surgery in three weeks.
I very much appreciate any help in this matter.
I have spoken with my family doctor regarding the removal of these implants but I feel he is very nonchalant about my concerns.
I wish there was someone more knowledgeable who could speak with the surgeon on my behalf…

So I am considering Dr. Harden in Fort Walton Beach, FL. I just called her office as I’ve heard high recommendations for her. I was surprised to learn she is NOT a plastic surgeon. She is a general surgeon that does lots of breast surgery related to cancer, and no implants. Ive been a little hung up on finding a “plastic surgeon” and am a bit thrown that she is not. She has done many explants. How important, if at all, is it to have an official plastic surgeon? Maybe I’m paranoid…

I am a New Zelander. In 1999 I was diagnosed ith breast cancer, breast removed then no cancer found. In NZ medical professiion cannot be sued. Implant saline was inserted in 1999 only to rupture 3 years later. Then a silicone implant replaced it. 17 years on I wanted the breast checked as I am experiencing health problems, first thyroiditis diagnosed only not to be found, severe fatigue, shakiness on the side of the implant. Is there any test that can be done to see if I have silicone poisoning. My doctor will not give a referral fo me to see a specialist. The Accident Compensation (a New Zealand department) paid for thee original operations and awarded me
$28 per week for life. Please any advice you can give me as I have no where to turn.

      Hi Joan,

if you are under ACC you can go and see a Plastic Surgeon in private and most will not require a referral, but would like access to your old notes. If you don’t have confidence in your original surgeon you can search through the NZAPS website to find someone in your local area.

Your GP however, should not decline to refer you to your regional Plastic Surgical Unit, although you may not reach threshold depending on the area if your implant is not ruptured. Certainly after 17 years you should have some imaging of your implants to check (Ultrasound or mammogram as a base line) and then it becomes very easy if it is ruptured as the public system will take out your implants if they are ruptured, no questions.

      Good luck!

      Hi Shirley,
There are no explant surgeons we know of yet in Hawaii but they may be there, you are looking for a plastic surgeon or a breast surgeon that removes implants properly which means En Bloc with a Total Capsulectomy. All capsule tissue should be removed with the implant. Was your explant a Total Capsuletcomy. From your health problems it sounds like a Total Capsulectomy was not performed when you explanted in 1995. Oregano Oil is to be taken orally and follow the directions on the bottle. Use up to 1 tsp of cayenne pepper in 8 ounces of hot water with the juice of 1/2 to one lemon. I take Dr. Mercola’s fish oil. Were your mercury fillings removed correctly following proper protocols? In Hawaii you can buy the local Nonnie Juice for excellent fermented health foods. Milk Thistle are capsules and I take the brand Organika. Go to a good ND for thyroid tests and ask for a full thyroid panel including T3T4 conversion, they will know. Check cortisol in the afternoon – pm means any time past 12:00 noon. For oral chelations using DMSA study Andy Cutler’s protocol. Grapefruit Seed extract is similar to Oil of Oregano and taken orally by putting several drops in water and drinking it. Follow the directions on the bottle. In regard to your symptoms it sounds like you did not have a Total Capsulectomy when you had your implants removed and it sounds like you may have mercury left over that needs chelating following Andy Cutler’s protocol. And it sounds like you may have fungus as a complication of the two. Follow a low mycotoxin/antifungal diet too. Hope this helps. Nicole

    Hello ,
I am very grateful to have come to find all this information about BII. I had BA in the year 2000, (under the muscle)and developed a right pocket issue which left me having 3 surgeries to correct it with no luck. I finally decided to remove them 6 years later. Little did I know, about proper explantation. I simply had them removed and I’m certain my surgeon did not remove the scar tissue. I was also experiencing some health issues suddenly. At the time , since I believed (perhaps ) it was the implants causing joint pains, insomnia, chronic fatigue, candida etc….however, once I explanted , things did not worsen but not improve. I believed there was another culprit. In 2012, I caved again into having breast implants . I recently stumbled upon Crystal Hefner’s breast Implant Illness story, that was the BAM moment. Here I am, I would like to explant , which means the tissue from the old implants must be removed , including this set which is placed over the muscle. I was hoping to know if is there is someone who has explanted with any of these surgeons in my area . Can they provide any feedback. I searched specifically for anyone who has explanted with no findings. I”m pretty nervous about this next step , however , relieved to have found the answers.

Hi, I’ve had my saline implants which are under the muscle 24 yrs now and have been interviewing many surgeons to replace them when I came across your post on Facebook. I suffer from many of the illnesses listed here and have always wondered if they were caused by my implants. I am quickly considering total removal now. My health is my priority above all else but I have to ask, how has your experience been with the general appearance of your breasts after removal. I’m 42 and have had 3 children and I’m scared of how they will appear afterwards. Have you seen other methods (safe ones) used to “reconstruct” the breast after removal? Again, my health is top priority but I am scared of looking disfigured. Thank you

      Hi Nicole,
We understand your concerns, my breasts look more or less the same as before implants but with more volume. Implants do cause more volume in the breasts. I did not lift but about 40 percent of the women do lift. Overall many women are much happier with their explanted breasts and especially with getting their health back. Nicole

I just had my implants removed on Wednesday, May 18. I used Dr Brian Parker (he was on the list as recommended). I highly recommend using Dr. Parker if you are in the Las Vegas area. He knew the answers to all my questions and even had more information about the procedure than I knew to ask. My implants were removed en-bloc with total capsulectomy. I had the option of keeping the implants and capsules, but did not want them. Dr Parker provided me with photos of the removed implant and capsules. He has a wonderful bedside manner, I never felt rushed, he took the time to listen and answer all questions and concerns.

Has anybody encountered a surgeon leaving part of the capsule behind because it was sticking to the rib?
What happens to my health then?

      Hello *,
It is not uncommon for a small part of the capsule to be left because it is stuck to the rib, it happened to me and I still recovered. We advise against the entire capsule being left in or a substantial amount of the capsule because the body cannot detox that amount but the body can detox a small amount of capsule. Nicole

I had mine removed in Knoxville Tennessee seem to have to direct the surgeon on each process that was needed for the explant to be sent off and examined was expensive and he would not give them to me we had to pay them for shipping and it was very expensive can’t quite get a a realistic answer on whether or how many they have done before wouldn’t recommend Knoxville according to my removal just had my breast exam this is the third year removed and I still have silicone in right breast. And the doctor seemed surprised when I asked him about the 40 toxic chemicals that make up silicon comma could it be possible that these surgeons don’t know that they are filled with formaldehyde acetone black ink Tulum xcetera very scary please doctor should have to put a list on the wall to let patients know what they’re putting inside their bodies and then they can decide if they want the implant procedure done or not

Portland, Oregon/Vancouver, Washington area ladies – I highly recommend Dr Allen Gabriel of Peacehealth in Vancouver. He did my explant 3 years ago, and explants for several other women I’m in contact with online as well. He is board certified plastic surgeon, but also has specialized training and did fellowship in breast surgery specifically. He is highly regarded as a breast surgeon (reconstruction) but also plastic surgeon. He was the only consult I had (out of 4 highly regarded surgeons in the area) who was completely non-judge mental and confident about explant. He did beautiful, minimally invasive work and I am thrilled with how he treated me as a patient and a person.

Went to see Dr Lee Min Lai. She does not really believe in breast implant illness. And thinks I have auto immune problems. I did strongly state that l believe all my problems were from residual silicone in breast and lymph glands from previous explant. Nice lady but l wouldn’t reccomend her for this reason. She did spend a lot of time with me and was thorough. But I’m even more confused now.

Hi Nicole- I just want to thank you with every fiber of my being for starting this page & continuing to serve each & everyone of us! You are one amazing lady and we are truly blessed to have you!!! I also am curious on the ICD-9 & ICD-10 codes. I am on state (Minnesota) insurance, due to not being able to work & any info/help to get these out of me will be greatly appreciated! My PCP is helping me with trying to get my state ins to pay for them to be removed due to medical issues. Also,I saw on a comment on a post here…
        Dr Joseph M. Gryskiewicz
Burnsville Medical Building, 303 E Nicollet Boulevard, Suite 330, Burnsville, Minnesota, US 55337. (He’s literally 5 minutes from me!) Have you or anyone heard any good or bad things about him? I went to Dr.Jacqueline Anne Luong & she made me feel sooo uneasy, scared & she said I did not have to have the Capsulectomy done because it’s not necessary & that my skin is to thin. Oh & my breasts are leaking a blackish green & she actually told me that that is normal! Umm is it? I am beyond sick to the point I am bed ridden. I also have lost so much weight (currently 98lbs) I’ve lost all muscle mass as well,I literally look like a skeleton. :'( My biggest & most embarrassing symptom is my skin issues. It’s almost like a parasite. Uhhh I can’t even believe I’m typing that. Anyway, the worst is on my scalp & my fingers. There are sores & my scalp/fingers burn, sting, biting sensation, itch & I almost want to rip my nails off bcz it hurts so bad. Has anyone reported this? I also have almost all the other symptoms plus I have fungal & bacteria issues, everywhere! I’m going to an infectious disease dr on Sept 1st. There’s so much more but if you could answer those few questions,I would so greatly appreciate it. Thank you again Nicole for all that you do! Without you,I would have never found this, not associated any symptoms to my implants. I hope I haven’t waited to long & that I can make it through this bcz I am so sick! I truly can’t express how grateful I am for you!
        Sweetest regards-

          Hi Missy,
Don’t use that surgeon, she has no idea what she is talking about, it is NOT normal for your breasts to be leaking greenish/black fluid and it means that your implants may be colonized with microorganisms likely fungus/mold. You must get an En Bloc/Total Capsulectomy explant of your breast implants asap. Even though your implants are saline they still need to be removed En Bloc because they are contaminated. Choose a surgeon willing to do that. After that, you will most likely need treatment for the fungal and other microorganisms both in the gut and at large in your body. Nicole

Hello, I wanted to inform you all of a wonderful plastic surgeon in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Gary Lawton. He just removed my implants almost 2 weeks ago. Followed every protocol that I asked for. Even went above and beyond what I asked for. He is very direct, but caring. He doesn’t sugar coat anything, but he is very confident in what he does. I couldn’t be happier with my results. He’s not the cheapest in the area, nor is he the most expensive. He gets it. Didn’t roll his eyes when I told him about my symptoms. Didn’t suggest that we drain my implants in office. And best of all didn’t try and talk me into getting them replaced. He is aware that these can make people ill. He is even working with my insurance to get some things paid for (which I did not ask for). Please, add him to the preferred list of Doctors for breast explant surgery. Also, I am available for any further questions you might have.

I then found the thread about him and why he is not on your list so that concerns me.I have researched a few other names on the list in the Dallas area but cannot find any feedback about them at all or even women that have used one of them for an explant. I have had a lot of health problems the past few years. After lots of doctors and scans and blood work I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme. So many of my symptoms are on the list for breast implant illness. I have had my implants for 20 years following a mastectomy. I know something is wrong but I don’t know where to turn as I generally do not feel good enough to travel. Does anyone have a doctor to recommend? This is a big deal and I don’t want to make a mistake. Thank you.

I have silicone, one of which has a slight capsular contracture. I knew I wanted to get them fixed, but the debate has been whether or not to replace or to keep them out for good. I like the size, but not if it’s going to keep me sick.

I’ve spoken with him ava he’s doing an excellent on another lady who posted to this website.
He does enbloc and believes women can get sick from the saline implants. I’ll include a bit of his email.
He’s seen women get better after reviving the implants. Even had a women come to him to remove them, she got better. Had more put in, she got sick. He took them out again and she’s been pain free ever since. He cares about the woman’s future goals. I assume he meant getting well.
    Here’s what he said
“I am sending the implants to Pierre Blais.
(Be believes that there is risk if the patient contaminating the impacts making a legal case void or not in their favor, so he ships the implants himself , following the correct protocol. I do not deny the possibility that this operation can make people better from their poorly defined illness.  I do not go through the inframmary fold.  That is a technical error. I completely disagree with the surgeons that believe they can accomplish this goal from that approach.  I go through the nipple so I can have a full 360 degree view of the space from the top.  This is the ONLY way to see the capsule in its entirety, especially the portion closest to the head. ”
    He takes care credit.

So is it not important to get your implants back from surgeon after removal? I went through the whole list of things to ask Dr and 1 of the points was to make sure you get your implants back. I have an appointment with Dr Lawton next week and based on his letter above it sounds like he does not give you back your implants.

Can you clarify this for me please?

          Hi Olivia,
I’m not sure if Dr. Lawton returns implants to patients or not, you will have to ask him that. You may want your implants back to examine them yourself or you may want implants back due to pursuing a legal case and if you do, speak with your attorney about how your implants should be handled to perserve your case.

Quick update on the NYC front: I had a consult with Dr. Chen this week and absolutely adored her. I have the absolute confidence in her for explant, but was hesitant about her ability with fat grafting. Has anyone had any experience with fat transfer with her? Separately I had a second consult with Dr. Nolan Karp – he does not believe in capsule removal unless there is an issue with capsular contracture or rupture. Needless to say, he is off the list. I was going to have my final consult with either Dr. Alexes Hazen or Dr. Mihye Choi. Does anyone have any experience with either doctor?

I met Dr Ahn last year but she was pushing fat grafting on to me and I did not want it due to the poor long term results vs. risk. Now I wanted to have another consult with her and let her know I only want explant, and she is on this long sabbatical. BTW- dr. Nicole,
I went to a consultation today for explant. Soooo disappointing. I wonder if you know if it’s the law or not, that the doctor HAS to soak the implants in something. It wasn’t formaldehyde. She used another word. But said after soaking in it that a lot of times the implants break because the stuff is so strong. She said it kills everything and there would be no way to tell if there was any bacteria in it afterwards. She said it was required. And that OSHA wouldn’t let her return the implants until they were decontaminated. But I read to request them back and send them to Dr. Pierre Blais . Dr. Connie Hiers, in San Antonio is who I consulted with. I DO NOT recommend her. She would not do en-bloc. Will drain the implants before removal. Said she would “try” to get all the tissue out. And did not think they cause illness.
That’s the seCond dr. I’ve consulted with. I’ve caked many others. This is very discouraging. She was only $4100.00 but will not do procedure right. The ones who do are in the $8000.00 range. This is awful. I Don’t have that kind of money.

Without a moments hesitation I can recommend Dr. Constance Chen, New York City, (micro-surgical breast reconstruction surgeon) for breast explant. I had planned to have the explant surgery with Dr. Ahn, but between my insurance and her sabbatical that didn’t work out. I needed a surgeon of the same type caliber and not one of those type “plastic surgeon’s with before and after photos of big breasted, now big butt young women on the pages of their websites. No, no, no.

I wanted to wait until my first follow-up appointment which was yesterday to add her to list. I was so pleasantly surprised by the first view. After only a week my breasts were healing so well, looked like my prior small breasts. The silicone breast implants had been in for approximately 24 years, so I was prepared to be expecting the worst. Not at all. They were explanted En Bloc. Dr. Chen told me they were the original dow corning implants. I had been having severe episodes of “beyond” brain fog but attributed that to another issue, Wrong. My prior clear mental state has pretty much returned almost as soon as these nightmare implants were removed. Back in the “old” days we weren’t informed that breast implants aren’t meant to last more than ten years and we would need MRI’s to detect rupture. The FDA never did bother to really get their message out of their later recommendations, I didn’t know to look on their website.

I found Dr. Chen to be a confident Pro, with a respectful manner towards her patient. The staff are lovely and efficient. I couldn’t be more pleased. Her address is 875 Park Ave., 212 792-6378. I am really so thrilled to be able to give anyone who found this website, this information.

Beth, Glad you found this, I saw you had been looking too. Dr. Constance Chen did En Bloc removal Yes. I didn’t need muscle repair. I assumed since the implants were in for so many years, the skin would be so sunken in and paper thin. No, not the case, Just my small breast back. My cognitive function is back; not perfect, but so much better than I was, I was in a frightening fog for several years now, believing that symptom was due to another issue. I am basically small framed so these 330 museum pieces were also painful. I never went without a bra, harnessing them in and for what reason……

This is still only four days post surgery so No complaints whatsoever. I would realize Dr. Chen is a very sincere person as well as skilled surgeon. I’m just glad to share this information, because I had been searching and suffering, finally came across Dr. Ahn, than that option went away. I was also way too sick to travel due to the brain fog; (brain fog isn’t strong enough to express how mentally helpless I had become) and to have to get on a flight seemed so off, to live in NYC but the options for other surgeons just weren’t there, not right, or just too slick. The last thing I needed, than I came across Dr. Chen….

A few questions from me – did you not need muscle repair because your original implants were not under the muscle?

How did you find Dr. Chen? Does she have a strong experience with explant procedures? I’m beside myself that Dr. Ahn is on sabbatical with no return date in sight..

What other physicians did you consult with?

Thank you again and wishing you all the best in your recovery! Thank you for sharing your story and all of your help – you are giving us Dr. Ahn patients hope again!

That surgeon is very knowledgeable, but doesn’t work with my insurance. So I was feeling frustrated today- after coughing up $500 for the consultation. Hey I even flew to meet Susan Kolb in Atlanta 2 weeks ago. I am sure she is an educated and highly recommended surgeon- but her techniques were not for me. However, theses sleepless nights lead me to browsing on the internet and I came across this well needed recommendation. Thanks a million, friend in my head 🙂

Thank you so much for creating this site!I have had my implants since 1982. When all the lawsuits started in the 1990’s, I began to realize that the doctor who put them in lied to me. He said they would last forever and I would never have to have them taken out. I began searching for a surgeon. I lived in Denver at the time and only two surgeons did that kind of work. I went to one who said mine had been in too long and it would be close to impossible to get them out. I gave up. Now, after two thermographys and an MRI, it has been found I have a slow leak in one. I am looking once more for a surgeon. However, the problem now is two-fold; I have health insurance that will not pay for the surgery and I do not have the money (or the credit) for the surgery. Do you have any suggestions for finding financial help or getting my insurance to pay? Thank you so much!

Since there are so many women I see looking for explant surgeons in the NY/NJ area and I am now reading Dr. Ahn in NY will be on sabbatical and no particular return date, Would it than be a good idea to start researching breast cancer surgeons who can most probably do breast explant surgery too. Just a suggestion.

Hi Nicole, can you or anyone recommend a physician experienced in performing En-Bloc eplantation in or around the New Orleans, La. area. Post mastectomy 25 years ago with reconstructive with saline implants which were replaced in 2009 due to contracture with Silicon implants. Have now developed neuropathy, Hashimoto auto immune thyroiditis, gluten intolerance, 20# wt. loss, fatigue, headaches & now severe itching all over. I too have been thru numerous MRI’s, Cat scans, spinal tap, endoscopes, all negative and GYN said possible implant toxicity, but, had MRI of breast and implants intact so PS sees no correlation. It has been 7 months of multiple doctors, labs and testing, seeing allergist/immunologist tomorrow for another opinion. We have 2 major reconstructive breast centers here in New Orleans, but have not consulted any doctor yet. Appreciate any recommendation or information you or anyone can provide for resources in this area

    Thanks,
    Claire

Hi all. I’m looking for an excellent explant surgeon in Brisbane/Gold Coast area of Australia. Any info would be fantastic. I’m booked in for consult with 2 different surgeons but still just a bit unsure at this stage. Thank you.

Hi Jasmanne, unsure if you will see this post but did you eventually find an excellent En Bloc Explant surgeon in Bris/GCoast?

I’m also desperately looking for a TOP experienced PS recommendation there also, very unsure and not impressed with those i have consulted. Having read a lot here and on the FB group page over the last week, admin Nicole has some great advise with many others experiences about having the correct surgery procedures for ultimate outcome and future health after correct removal.
I’ve followed alternative natural health most of my life and want to well prepare for pre and post surgery, BUT need to first find the BEST HIGHLY SKILLED WELL EXPERIENCED EDUCATED PS who understands and recognises the illnesses and follows strict protocol surgery removal and offers impressive after care for his/her patients. I need to have surgery ASAP as mine after 40yrs (ill health) are ruptured leaking not yet into lymphs and need to act soon… but not with just any PS.
I wished Nicole here could refer us to the others who have had surgery with her listed PS.
      Thank you Debra.

I am wondering if any of the women have gotten better since their explanations specifically reversed autoimmune diagnosis. I Tested ‘low positive’ for scleroderma last August. I have had saline implants for 17 years but getting them out (en bloc) ASAP since I am starting to get a couple of scleroderma symptoms. I also plan to detox with a local functional med Doctor. The WORSE part of all of this is realizing that the positive ANA my child rec’d 3 yrs ago is likely due to these implants. I would like him detoxed as well (he is 7 now).
So my question is: Has anyone’s autoimmunity been reversed- negative ANA?

      Hi Kyra,
I was diagnosed with Nonspecific Connective Tissue disease and that has now disappeared. I know several women that had positive ANA tests that became negative after explant. It is very common for us to be diagnosed with autoimmune diseases only to have them disappear after a proper explant and time to detox. Hope that gives you some comfort. Nicole

Does anyone have an alternate recommendation for explant surgeon who also does fat transfer in the NYC area? Dr. Ahn is on sabbatical and her team is not able to confirm when she comes back nor provide a referral for an alternate doctor. If not the tri-state area, who would everyone recommend as an out of state doctor with a great reputation for both? Know Dr. Feng has a great reputation for explant, but from my understanding, not a strong reputation for fat transfer

I had both breast implants (Mentor) and a tummy tuck done in 2012. I had the right breast redone in 2013 because my nipple was an inch lower than my left, and now it looks even worse. It got locked in place too far up. Within three months, I started with chronic pain, extreme fatigue and constant diarrhea and vomiting. I have since been diagnosed with fibromyalgia , connective tissue disease and lupus, along with extreme anxiety and depression. I take morphine and norco for pain and Xanax and an antidepressant. I had to give up my career and have gone thru my entire savings for treatment. I am now awaiting my Social Security disability hearing. What tests should I have done to see if the implants are what is causing my problems? Are there any financial assistance programs available? Of note is my mother died of MS at 47. I realize that Lupus and MS are both in the autoimmune category. I never imagined that implants caused so many problems. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

      Hi Debbie,
Don’t waste more time or money trying to prove it is your implants. It is your implants causing your illness and symptoms and a proper explant and detoxification is required in order to improve your health. There is a silicone sensitivity test here: http://betterlabtestsnow.com/silicone-hypersensitivity-panel.aspx and there are tests here which uncover the damage done by breasts implants: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/breast-implant-symptoms/ but at the end of all these test you still need to explant those toxic breast implants. Anna, I had the same experience! Was at the point of receiving my final surgery quote and then received a call from Dr. Ahn’s office saying that she was going on sabbatical for an extended period of time. Does anyone have any other recommendations for the NYC area? Anyone with explant + fat transfer experience with Dr. Coleman? Currently have 9+ year implants for Poland Syndrome and want them out, but will need a reconstructive procedure as well. Very upset about Dr. Ahn!!

Nicole, I just stumbled across this information. Thank Jesus I did! You are amazing with all this info. Who are you? A patient advocate? A nurse? Or are you just One of us??
I am in desperate search of help as my health is deteriorating fast. We just moved from Missouri to Hilton head South Carolina area. I diligently read through all of the comments below so I saw your recommendations for Dr. Kolb in Atlanta Georgia. Do you know of anyone better or possibly even more experienced in tough cases that is closer or even further away? I am 48 and have had six surgeries on my breasts since receiving my first set of implants 12 years ago. It has been a nightmare and I cannot get help from any mainstream plastic surgeon. I just want them out and I feel like the right one is leaking and I’m starting to have breathing problems, pain at the site and I can feel a big bubble of some sort popping out from underneath the right seam. Of course all the usual symptoms of brain fog and even shortness of temper and I believe I’m having thyroid problems now. I have gained 80 pounds over this time frame so I am currently considered obese at 250 lbs and 5’6. Do you think I’m even healthy enough to have the surgery? The last surgery I had was my third set of implants about five years ago but I was 55 pounds lighter. I kept having problems so they put me under for surgery to replace or fix. The first time was a staph infection in one of them! I’m not sure if I need to try to lose some weight before surgery (which I have been trying to do unsuccessfully and wholeheartedly by the way) or get them explanted ASAP. What do you think? At this point it is a matter of finances for me. I have spent so much money over the years and the sad thing is it was all to pay for the doctors mistakes or recommendations to keep replacing.

The most important question I have for you is how do you get insurance to pay for this? Right now we have CIGNA insurance but it doesn’t seem to be nearly as good as the insurance we left behind with our old company. Can you recommend a doctor that is not too far away from me that can handle tough cases ( I have a lot of scar tissue as you can imagine) and that will help with insurance to pay or I have heard that some doctors Will do this at a reduced rate and I’ve even heard free but I don’t know if that is true. I pray that it is but it seems doubtful. I need a miracle and I believe God can supply one!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and all the hearts of the women on here that you’re helping. You are my last hope for information. God bless you on this New Years Eve day.

    Hi
I have had my saline implants for a little over 2 years. Almost 2 years to the day I noticed one was lower than the other a little bit. I went to my surgeon who said I needed to have another surgery, where he could remove the implant, make a new ” shelf” and put the implant back in.. He wanted me to do this AWAKE. just with a local. I have not had it fixed yet. Shortly after I was having such severe pain, tiredness in my right hand and arm that I could not even hold a hairbrush. I thought it was carpal Tunnel. After having some bloodwork done, it was positive for an autoimmune problem. I was then sent to a specialist, who said my test came back positive for Lupus. But he didnt think it was Lupus…he said nothing really made sense of what it could be since I had no family history of anything. He decided it was probably Rheumatoid Arthritis and began treating me for this. Its been a few months and my hair is thinning, I have HORRIBLE night sweats, and now severe pain in my right hand, to the point , that I cant use it much. Is there a definate way to find out if it is the implants? Is it just taking a chance , and have them removed and see if I feel better ? I just dont want to have them removed , if its not them causing the problem. Would love your advice.
    Thanks so much.

      HI Julie,
My names Julie, i too am suffering from auto immune illnesses. I have had my implants for 16 years, i started getting ill around 5 years ago. I became alergic to penicillin then had severe anaphylaxis to all antibiotics, beside doxycycline. I was also diagnosed with angioedemia. I started getting hot flushes and unexplained fevers about 2 years ago, then joint pain, i was diagnosed with RA and fibromyalgia. I was started on methotrexate, but was so ill could not tolerate it.I have severe vertigo at times have been admitted too hospital. Tingling in my arms and hands, low blood pressure. Depression, anxiety, mind fog. In all the time i have seen specialists and doctors, not once did they say my saline implants could link to all my health problems. It was one night i was so ill i could not get out of bed, i prayed and said, whats wrong with me God help me. I swear i heard a voice as clear as someone speaking. Its your implants. I googled it straight away and was blown away. I am getting them out in 4 weeks, and i am so sure my health will get dramatically better. My immune system is so overloaded i cannot wait too see what it feels like to be healthy again. Good luck too you and i hope you find wellness.

I am suffering from Lymphoma which could only have been caused by my implants and the bacteria, virus and chemicals associated with the implants. Since I have had the implants close to 25 years I have found a surgeon who will take them out for free so long as I get a referral from my family doctor. Tuesday I will see her and I am afraid she will find some reason to refuse since for the last couple years I have been through every test under the sun and have been literally mauled by institutional doctors and finally told must have chemo and radiation therapy. Of this I refused and pursued natural medicine instead. All the while I asked “the professionals” what caused Lymphoma and the answer was always the same – we do not know what causes Lymphoma. Seems those in the medical field never read studies or medical journals was very frustrating. All my life I was healthy getting regular exercise, eating right, never drinking and taking supplements. For me to mysteriously getting sick which started in 2003 was a real surprise given my general physical health. Finally after much research it is obvious that these bags in my chest are the only possible cause. They will come out even if my doctor refuses to refer me as I will take them out myself if I have to! But my finances are such that I can not pay someone to do it. The plastic surgeon who says they can be removed free is Dr.Jakoby and I am wondering if anyone has some info on this doctor as this is my only option it would be important to know if this doctor is reputable or not so I know what to expect.

Well my doctor did give me a referral and now I just have to wait for the phone call and then wait for the explant which might be months down the road as the medical system in Canada is bunk as with all new world order medical services. My next task is to somehow request the implants to be given to me for analysis and I ask the Admin – what is the best way to word this so as not to alarm sensitive medical professionals?

        Hi Julliette,
Your implants are yours and belong to you, you paid for them and the law is on your side. In order to ensure you get your implants returned to you make it a condition of your explant with whoever you chose. Tell him/her that you intend to send your implants directly to Dr. Pierre Blais for failure testing and they must be returned to you immediately after removal without being sanitized or damaged in any way. Nicole

Who is Dr. Pierre Blais? If this doctor will test for bacteria, virus, fungus and chemicals this is just what I would be seeking. This information is absolutely important for me to discover what my body is attempting to fight and the possible cause of my Lymphoma. As well, the analysis is pertinent for any litigation for the pharmaceutical company who manufactured them. I believe, from my research that within each implant there is a company identification as well as a serial number which I need to know also. Do you know if this is true? I have also heard from certain sources that some include a microchip with an embedded transmitter. Sounds like a science fiction but who knows what could be in there.

            Hi Juliette,
Please see Dr. Pierre Blais’s information on the Resource page of this website, he tests and analyses implants for failure analysis and why they caused you illness. Yes, each implant has an identification mark and a serial number. I do not believe that implants have a microchip. Nicole

I have had implants since 1998, no real health issues except 2 years ago when my thyroid & adrenal glands went haywire. Symptoms of hypothyroidism & depleted adrenals. Total fatigue set in. My hair has been getting thinner for about the past 8 or so years, not too worried until 3-4 years ago when it’s been more & more noticeable! 2.5 years ago Went to naturopath & she has put me on natural pig thyroid & other supplements to bring my adrenals back up. She also sent in a hair analysis & that came back with extremely high levels of lead & high levels of aluminum. I also went to a dermatologist to determine why my hair is in such bad shape, so thin & stringy, receding.she ran blood work on autoimmune diseases, etc; came back all good, just low on iron. She said most likely hair loss thyroid related & hair should start growing back after being on thyroid meds in a year. She called my hair loss alopecia. *Unknown*. Going on two years now & my hair is worse than ever! In the back of my mind I’m saying….. could this be a cause from my implants?

Hello, I had saline breast implants in 1998 because I had two lumpectomies and my breasts would have been lopsided. I’ve been so ill over the past 6 years, Chest, back, throat pain, extreme and debilitating fatigue, nausea, stomach pain. Stabbing feeling in my back that wakes me up at night and I just cry because it’s so painful.

Diagnosis illusive – I’ve been diagnosed with Chronic fatigue, vestibular migraines, chronic sinusitis, repeated yeast infections and in the past two years, and thrush. My general practitioner finally just put me on a ongoing prescription of a 150mg pill Fluconazole once a week as needed. Believed and others believed I was crazy or a hypochondriac. I was a senior executive at a Fortune 100 company for over 20 years and had to go out on disability. Depression was the diagnoses for the disability, but it didn’t make sense to me. I recently put it together that when I take the Fluconazole, my chest pain subsides and my energy comes back a bit. I never put the two together. But then about a week later everything returns – it won’t go away.

Then I saw a show on TV where the woman explained exactly what I was experiencing. It was her breast implants. I have little doubt mine are the problem. Also want them out. I live in Minneapolis. Suggestions for anyone who has had it done in the Minnesota area?

Had one implant done in 1978 due to breast defect ( one bigger than other). Approx 7 years ago, I had a rupture and was told by my doctors again and again that it’s not necessary to remove it. About 4 years ago, I was having a bit of discomfort, and I was busy taking care of my father (died 3 yrs ago) and my dementia mother. Before my father was sick, he was going to help pay for the surgery, to make long story short, years ago, my implant was covered by my parents insurance because it was not cosmetic. Now, I cannot afford to have not only explanation but also to have lift for both breast as I am almost 55 years old. I went to at least 4 different surgeons and had different opinions in NY/NJ area and was not completely satisfied with them and of course extremely expensive and not making effort to get insurance coverage even partial! Unfortunately, I have Obamacare and have very limited choices of doctors to use. I am presently in pain due to calcification etc.. (I went to my GYN and he wanted mammogram and I was against it as it will be extremely painful to have it done and said I should see a breast surgeon to get an ultrasound or MRI. I could not understand why he could not give me prescription for that.. I know I need to have the procedure done but I need help finding the right caring doctor!!!

We don’t know of a good explant surgeon right in the Pittsburg area yet. Please see the full Explant Surgeon list here: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explant-surgeons/. There are a couple very good surgeons within travelling distance. Dr. Lu-Jean Feng in Ohio is highly regarded and Dr. Christina Ahn of New York is also highly regarded. If you continue looking for a surgeon in the Pittsburg area, please ensure you choose a surgeon that will remove your daughter’s implants Enbloc, if possible, with a Total Capsulectomy. All capsule tissue must be removed for her best recovery. Please note that Pulmonary Hypertension diagnosed through Echo cardiogram is a symptom of breast implants and can be treated with CoQ10-Ubiquinol and Resveratrol both which help protect the heart from toxins from silicone chemicals, heavy metals and biotoxins from mold/fungus overgrowth in our body. Hello,
Thank you for this amazing website. All the symptoms I’ve had for so long and that I see are related to my implants I’ve had in for 10 years. I’ve been wanting to get them removed for several years now. I live in France and see that you have a recommended surgeon in Paris: Jean-Marie Faivre – Highly Recommended
Clinique Saint Genevieve, 29 rue Sarrette, 75014, Paris, France. Why is he recommended? Do you know someone who’s had their implants removed by him? If so do you think you could put me in contact with them? Finding a good surgeon is something that worries me. I don’t want to go back to the surgeon who implanted me. I’m worried about making things worse so really want someone who’s used to doing this operation.

Thanks very much for your help,

    Johanna

Hi after reading the forum I am suffering with a lot of the symptoms . I had surgery in 1997 after the birth of my son I have had 18 years of happy boobs completely satisfied. But I am now suffering from fatigue aching joints in my neck arms and hands i have been diagnosed with under active thyroid which is being assessed . I am based in Staffordshire UK and feel very concerned I had made a decision to have my implants replaced as I can’t imagine life without them, but after reading this site I have decided to have them removed. Not all of my family members are aware I have implants and I would prefer to keep it that way. I would be very grateful if you could recommend a surgeon and give me advice of how long recovery times would be. A very concerned wendy.

    Hi,

I would recommend removing Dr. Adrian Richards from this list. He removed my implants two years ago and I asked him at the time if he could do a total capsulectomy removal and he said it wouldn’t be possible as my breasts were too small.
He also claimed there was nothing wrong with silicone. In fact he said one of his patients had a high silicone reading in her body and then realised it was from all the hair products she was using that contain silicone (quite how she’d be able to measure that I don’t know!)
I’m now getting pains all over since the procedure two years ago and am convinced it is due to part of the capsule being left in my body.
Does anyone know if this can still be removed at this later stage?

I have had my saline implants for 9 years (almost exactly) now. After a trip to the emergency room today due to uncontrolled itching from what looks like several different rashes and Folliculitis, that not only won’t go away, but has spread almost all over.
Approximately 6 years ago, with a sore back & highly stressed out from work, my husband suggested a soak in our hot tub. He didn’t keep it as clean as he should have, but I did it anyhow. It felt really good & I stayed in about an hour. A few days later, I had a few spots on my left shoulder & my left but cheek. When my husband inquired about the spots on my butt cheek – heat rash, I said, from the hot tub. I am putting medicine on it and is should go away in a few days. Not only did it not go ways, but it itched like hell. I ‘popped’ the heat pimples (whatever) on my shoulder and guess what. It started moving across the top of may back to the other shoulder. Not healing on its way. No, now i had it itching and hurting from one shoulder to the other.
I had a spot on my leg removed at a local dermatologist’s ofc shortly after that. He asked me if i wore wet clothes, wore clothes too tight,,,, handed me 2 tubes of cream & sent me on my way. Didn’t even look at it. I was surprised, but apparently not enough to insist he look at it. Those didn’t work. Long, long story short, i have been to 2 other dermatologists, an infectious disease clinic, a a doctor of integrative medicine. I probably have also spent about $1k in products, systems & home remedies on my own to try to get rid of this stuff. I have a list 4 pages long and growing of things i have tried and been prescribed…. l I have been diagnosed & treated for acne, Folliculitis- regular & hot tub, i”ve been on entire ‘family’ of antibiotics. Minor changes for a few days (if i was lucky), but nothing ever cured it. One dermatologist told my husband he thought i was doing this to myself and suggested therapy. Haven’t seen him since. One of the soaps recommended by the first dermatologist – panoxyl – actually spread it. everywhere i used the soap, i broke out. It took 3 bars of it before i connected the dots. About half of it went away after i stopped using it. My last dose of steriods (14 days) ended with an immediate explosion all the way down both arms & both legs.
it took about a year before it showed up on my right butt cheek. From scratching, i was told. I tested that theory – not scratching (hardest thing i’ve done lately) for a couple weeks. the open sores healed, but i was still breaking out….. fast forward to now. I am broken out on my back, my chest & tummy, thighs, arms. Let me clarify “broken-out” with ingrown hairs growing parallel to my skin, not pimply breakouts, Very, very painful. Pending results of hair & stool samples & food allergy tests. The ER trip was beneficial. Adding pepcid (yep) to my benadryl regimin. The Dr. asked about implants. I have thought of this a dozen times, but never when i was talking to any of my doctors. in the interim, i have gained 30 pounds, been diagnosed w/ hypo thyroid – hashimotos, I hide under long sleeves. No sex – I can’t bear it. My skin is pissed-off – it doesn’t like anything. I am extremely irritable, emotional & end the end of my rope with this.
Now i am in search of a Rheumatologist in the Brandon/Tampa FL area who is willing to explore the possibility of the implants being the culprit & , after this article, willing to do the extract the right way. I have regretted getting implants numerous times for numerous reasons. But now,,,,

      Hi Angel,
I removed Dr. Melmed from the Explant Surgeon list because he is conservative when it comes to capsule removal. I have communicated with enough woman who had their explant with Melmed, that had to have a second surgery to remove left over capsule tissue in order to completely recover. Melmed does not remove all capsule tissue all the time. Whatever surgeon you choose he/she must be committed to getting all the capsule tissue out for your best recovery. This is well known in the breast implant illness community. Nicole

Dr. Melmed performed my explant in 2011. My implants were 30 years old, horribly ruptured and I was terribly ill. I could barely walk. I asked that my scar capsule be removed also — which he did. I sent them to Dr. Pierre Blais in Canada after the explant. Dr. Melmed told me he had removed ALL of the silicone. Recently I found a lump in my right breast and got a breast MRI. It was a silicone granuloma and there was an even larger silicone granuloma on the left side in my armpit that had migrated underneath the muscle and into the lymph nodes. There was scattered foci of silicone throughout both breasts. So Dr. Melmed did *NOT* remove ALL of the silicone. While I do feel my health has improved since my explant — I am still sick. My blood recently tested positive for ANA and also for anti dsdna (indicative of Lupus). I have many symptoms of Lupus too — but so many of those are also symptoms with silicone poisoning. I still think my sickness is related to the silicone. I am seeing a rheumy next month. Having extra-capsular rupture (leakage outside of the scar capsule) is like an oil spill in the ocean. You can never get rid of all of it — no matter how good a job your surgeon did. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Dr. Melmed. Glad he is not on your list.

      Hi Lia,
As I describe in the preface on the surgeons list, the names of the plastic surgeons were collected from breast implant awareness sites and explant sites as surgeons other women obtained explants from. Very rarely will a plastic surgeon admit that breast implants cause illness because then it would be against their Hippocratic Oath to place them then. Plastic surgery is a business built on silicone. Plastic surgeons will be the last to admit silicone is toxic and causes illness in the body. Nicole

Hi, I’m hoping to get some information! I’m currently waiting to have an MRI to determine if I have a silicon rupture. I’ve had no health issues to date apart from brain fog and fatigue but I was putting that down to being a busy mum of 3 young kids! I’ve had the implants since 2007. In 2012 I found a hard lump in left breast I went to my doctor and I was referred to breast cancer hospital. While I was in between appointments I realised I was pregnant. As a result they were only able to do an ultrasound. They thought I might have a rupture but assured me that it was not dangerous to me or the baby and that when I was finished breast feeding I should get new implants. I sort of forgot about it to be honest and this week the left breast started to swell and has become tender. I’ve started researching the best options for me and deep down I’ve always regretted having implants as I’m very holistic by nature and I just got caught up in madness the year of my wedding and decided last minute to have them done! I just want them out now and scared of botched jobs! My question is I live in Ireland and I’ve been researching surgeons here and I’ve no idea where to find someone who will safely explant. I reaserched some of the surgeons on here in the UK but I’m wondering if you have any info on Irish surgeons. Money is very tight for me at the moment so traveling my be an issue.

Thank you for responding to my post Nicole. I will check into both of these doctors. I went to have my mammo and ultrasound today. They couldn’t do the mri because the referring doc didn’t write the referral properly. So, they could feel my lumps but couldn’t see them with either procedure. The radiologist doc came in and talked to me. I was shocked when he told me that it’s time to get rid of the implants and start feeling better. I told him about a few of my symptoms. Most doctors don’t believe that my problems are from the implants. His exact words were , get those things out and start feeling better, you’ve had your fun with them. LOL. as for my son. He has no medical issues. But he does have learning disability and still wets the bed at 11 years old. Through my research I’ve found that platinum causes both of these issues. I have 6 kids in total but only 2 were nursed with the implants in. I worry more about my boy because of the one rupturing while I was pregnant with him and nursing. I guess I really should get both kids hair checked for heavy metals. Neither of them have ever had any vaccines so it would be easy to tell if they came up positive for heavy metals where they came from. They don’t have silver fillings either. Would you happen to know how I’d go about getting them checked for heavy metals? Also do you think there’s a chance that if they did a detox that my son might be able to concentrate better and quit wetting the bed? Thank you so much for being here for all of us. You are a saint.

      Hi Pirina

Platinum and other heavy metals can cause similar symptoms but it is most likely the silicone chemicals causing your son’s bedwetting and developmental delays. Silicone chemicals are known endocrine distruptors which mess up our endocrine system which produce developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in humans and animals. Take your son with you to Dr. Kolb and have him assessed and put on silicone detox regime too. I would put him on the detoxification diet as well on my Detoxification page. I am so happy to hear that your kids did not receive vaccines or mercury fillings. If you have mercury fillings, I would prepare to have them removed as women really do not get better with them left in. If you remove any mercury fillings, make sure you go to a holistic dentist that follows proper mercury removing protocols so you are safe. If you still want to check for heavy metals too, you can do so through http://www.doctorsdata.com. I suggest getting both the Hair Elements and the Hair Toxic test because putting both together and reading them gives so much more information. Send me your Hair Tests and I can read them for you. Hair Tests are not straight forward but rather intuitive. Nicole

Hi, first I’m really sorry about everybody’s issues with breast implants. I had my first set of saline filled implants put in 17 years ago. When I was pregnant with my 11 year old son my left Brest implant ruptured. I called my OBGYN and he told me not to worry about it until I was done nursing. At first I could feel the somewhat hard silicone sac in my breast. After awhile it became mushy hen finally disappeared all together. This whole time I’m either pregnant or nursing my son. So about 18 months after the date of rupture I finally get them both replaced. The second one only because I wanted it bigger. The doc didn’t charge me anything to replace the left one. He also wouldn’t let my husband in the room when he did the surgery. After I came out of the anesthesia I remember very well the nurse telling me that she had something to tell me about the procedure before I left. I never saw her again before I left. As time went on I started feeling sick. Numb feet and hands and stinging feeling in them but only in bed. Tired and fatigue all the time. Diagnosed by 4 different doctors with fibromyalgia which I never really believed or wanted to accept. Whichever. Profuse sweating in my sleep with a horrible odor. I mean embarrassing and disgusting odor. I attributed that to peri menopause. But had my hormones checked and they levels came out normal. Severe migraines that last up to 3 weeks and when it’s not a migraine I have a headache everyday. I live on Tylenol and Advil. Very stiff muscles in my neck and back. My doc says I have muscle spasms from the top of my neck to the bottom of my back. I could go on and on about my symptoms. I pretty much miss every family function due to never feeling good. Forget grocery shopping and the normal things people do. I pay people to do as much as I can. I once again attributed all of this to my busy workload. I take care of 5 developmentally disabled ladies in my home and thank God I have plenty of staff to help with that. 3 hour naps everyday or everything is worse. So recently I realized that my left implant is moving all over the place and my right one is hard as a rock. It’s been hard for quite some time now. So recently I’ve found 3 lumps in my left breast and rippling. My doc has me scheduled for a mammo/ultrasound and mri tomorrow. She told me to schedule this as soon as I got home from my appt with her. When I got home the phone was ringing and it was the mammo dept wanting to schedule my appt. didn’t even wait for me to call them. Sort of has me worried. Also my areola is scaly which I think is from the first set of implants being put in and the plastic surgeon talked me into getting a nipple lift so they would match. After reading all of these stories I’m guessing that I probably have silicone poisoning. I’ve never believed that I have fibromyalgia but didn’t know what was making me so sick. I guess my question is do you recommend a doctor to handle my problem? I live in northern Ca but don’t mind traveling. I’m just so done not living and not enjoying life. Do you think I should find a local doctor or do you think my issues would be better handled by somebody elsewhere? I tend to downplay things and not see things for as bad as they are is why I’ve let this go on for so many years. Even as I type I’m not sure if I’m overreacting or if this situation is pretty serious. Another big problem is that I can’t remember ANYTHING. Brain fog would be an understatement. And my eyes are so sensitive to lights and the sun. The curtains have to be closed at all times. Oh, I could just go n and on. Could you please refer me to somebody. I want the best. Great if my insurance will pay for it but if it won’t I’ll deal with that. I have blue cross blue shield of California. But I’m willing to go out of California if there’s a better doctor somewhere else. I know I will need to detox after they are out and maybe even my son who I nursed off of both breasts my need a detox. Ok, sorry so long, thank you.

      Hi Pirina,
Thank you for your comment. If you don’t mind travelling, I suggest to go to Dr. Susan Kolb in Atlanta Georgia to explant and for support in your detoxification. By far, she is the most experienced at healing ladies from breast implant illness and has developed a protocol for detoxification and treatment of the associated symptoms. If you want to stay in California, I suggest Dr. Jae Chun in Newport Beach for explant as he is a highly recommended surgeon but does not help with detoxification. Both go through insurance if they are able. How is your son’s health? Nicole

Hi… it seems like most of the complications are from silcone breast implants… I had an augmentation preformed in April of 1999, but I have saline implants, not silcone. Three years ago I abruptly started having extremely sore feet. It has since turned into a neurological disorder. I have tingling and pain in all extremeties. I have had surgery performed on my left arm for ulnar nerve damage and the surgeon feels my right arm needs done. EMG testing show nerve damage in all four extremeties. I am not thinking clearly and I cannot decide if it’s from the medications, pain or what? I have also been told that I have fibromyalgia. Can saline implants cause these side effects?? I live in Yakima, WA and was thinking of going to a plastic surgeon in the Tri-City area. Thoughts or advice would be deeply appreciated!
    Thanks.

      Hi Sherri,
Yes, saline implants can cause the symptoms you describe. Both saline and silicone breast implants cause major problems. Most saline patients have bio-toxin illness from broad fungal/bacterial infections due to the construction style of the implants and the fact that implants and capsule tissue harbor fungus/bacteria. Saline implant shells break down spreading silicone and silicone chemicals throughout the body just as the silicone implants do causing autoimmune symptoms and diseases and other symptoms. Your symptoms sound autoimmune in nature. My advice is get properly explanted, treat for fungal/bacterial infections if present and undertake a detoxification regime. Nicole

I had breast implants back in 1981, I am 61 on years old. I do have health problems. I have moments where I become dizzy and a little disorientated. I have bad digestive issues, a weird fungle problem with my sinuses, and a mild case of asthma. A majority of the time I just don’t have much energy to do anything. I just push myself through the day on a daily basis. I’m wondering if my health insurance will cover removing the implant. The closest Dr. that specializes in the removal of implants is in Dallas Texas. Because of becoming disorientated occasionally I’m rather fearful of driving down there.

How can I find a doctor who can run tests to find out if I really am suffering from toxicity because of the implants. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to go in researching this?

      Hi Cathy,
If you still have your original breast implants in, they are now 34 years old and well beyond the typical lifespan of breast implants. In the last couple decades, plastic surgeons have been recommending breast implants be replaced every ten years because many are ruptured, leaking or bleeding gel well before ten years. From the symptoms you describe, it sounds like you may have a broad fungal infection from your implants. Breast implants cause broad bacterial/fungal infections for two reasons. First, because implants are large foreign bodies which overwhelm our immune system they cause immune system dysfunction and thus opportunistic organisms such as bacteria/fungus grow unchecked in our bodies causing large amounts of bio-toxins which are very toxic to us. Second, implants (saline especially) because of their construction also harbor fungus and bacteria within the implant and within the implant capsule. MRI’s can detect leaking silicone implants at times and ultrasound can detect fungal debris inside saline implants at times but there are many exceptions. There is no one definitive test to determine if your implants are causing your illness or toxicity. There is a silicone allergy test but in my opinion it is not a test that indicates illness due to implants. There may be high inflammation markers which can show up in tests. There may be problems with thyroid and or adrenals which show up in tests. Silicone chemicals are known endocrine disruptors and damage our sensitive thyroid and adrenal glands and causing adrenal insufficiency and hypo/hyper thyroid. Silicone is known adjuvant and can cause auto-immune symptoms and diseases. Breast implants are made of over 35 toxic chemicals which are well known to be neuro-toxic, cyto-toxic and carcinogenic and may overload our kidney and liver. Where do you live? Perhaps I can recommend a surgeon for your explant. After your explant you will need some antifungals such as Diflucan and liquid Nystatin for the gut. Nicole

Proper explants can be obtained for approximately $4,000 but some of these surgeons are charging $8,000 to $12,000.00 which, in my opinion, is too much. I have heard that Dr. Feng does go through insurance when possible as does Dr. Susan Kolb and Dr. Jae Chun in Newport, California. I believe that U.S. medical insurance does pay for removal of implants if they can be proven to be defective. Defective can mean ruptured, leaking or full of fungus/bacteria. Ultrasound can detect fungal debris in saline breast implants. Check out the Resource page on this site which lists Dr. Diana Zuckerman who is working to get insurance to pay for implants. Dr. Zuckerman will know the latest on insurance covering explants. Nicole

My wife is looking for an explant specialist who works with Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She had a double mastectomy 5 yrs with gel implants following a cancer diagnosis. No chemo or radiation. The last couple of years has been a downward spiral in her health with multiple issues of tingling and pain in left foot and left arm, pain in left breast and left side, hair loss, vertigo, fatigue, ear ringing, headaches, etc. Pain is quite severe 8 to 10 on 10 scale. Have had nerve conduction tests, Mri, ct, bone scan and hosts of other tests. Had the implants removed Sept 2014 and new slightly smaller ones installed. Thinking the size might have been an issue but it did not improve. All they can suggest is pain therapy. We would like to find someone who will work with our insurance but will pay out of pocket if necessary for the explant. We have spoken with her original PS and he wanted to leave the capsule and I do not feel comfortable with that. He relented and finally said he would remove the capsules as well. I have spoken with Dr Fengs office and would like that route as we have family in the Cleveland area and would make it convenient for post surgery and logistics. Someone in the Florida area would be great as well. I will be calling Dr Melmeds office tomorrow and see if they work with BCBS. I just want the best for my wife.

      Hi David,
Your wife’s symptoms are classic breast implant illness symptoms. Here is the Explant Surgeon list: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explant-surgeons/ from my site which does list a few surgeons in Florida (I don’t know much about them) however, I suggest Dr. Feng in Ohio in your case because your wife has been through so much. Dr. Feng is an excellent surgeon and will support your wife through her healing and recovery process. Nicole

Pam, if you are willing to travel to Charlotte, I can highly recommend Dr. Bryan Criswell. I just had an explant with him last week (total capsulectomy), my recovery has been easy and I’m already feeling so much better. He never once suggested a replacement, he is experienced with explants, never batted an eye when I was very clear that I wanted to be “cleaned out”. He listens and is very respectful. He was a good fit for me and what I needed. His wife is in the practice with him and also does explants. Top notch care from the nurses, as well.

Please can you tell me if there are any listed surgeons in Spain ( Andalucia) who ‘believe’ in illness caused by implants? I have developed multiple food intolerances, my liver and colon are not functioning and feel like death. Thankyou

      Hi Jo,
I don’t have a surgeon recommendation for you in Spain but that does not mean there is not a good plastic surgeon who will do a proper explant there. You are looking for a plastic surgeon that understands that the capsule tissue must be removed when doing an explant of breast implants. If he/she can do the explant Enbloc, all the better. The closest surgeon recommendation to you is Paris, France. A friend went to him and he is known as one of the best plastic surgeons in France. He does not necessarily promote the idea of breast implant illness however he does remove implants properly including capsule tissue when requested to do so. Here is his information: Jean-Marie Faivre, Clinique Saint Genevieve, 29, rue Sarrette, 75014 Paris. Please let me know how things progress for you and if you find a surgeon in Spain, please pass on his name. I get requests from all over the world now. Best wishes, Nicole

After 2 years of being bed ridden…literally, I had my breast implants removed via the en bloc procedure. I went from a healthy, athletic 5’9″ woman weighing 135 lbs to 223 lbs. Obesity runs in my family, so I have always been very health conscious. I use to run 8 miles six times a week just as a warm up to my workouts.
It all began with ambiguous aches and pains in my back and in my abdomen. I went to the emergency room numerous times, orthopedic specialist for my back, GI specialist for my gut. I had endoscopy, colonoscopy, HIDA scans, MRI’s, CT scans…then the neuropathy began. Nerve conduction tests along with visits to three different neurologists. Two of the best in the country at Vanderbilt Hospital. They were considering an MS diagnosis. It wasn’t until 2 years later that my right breast became hard and excruciatingly painful l (capsular contracture). I asked the neurologist…could this possibly be my 13 year old saline implants?? He told me quite possibly…yes! He had seen women presenting MS and lupus symptoms come in wheelchairs and have explants done…and make partial to full recoveries.
I started doing research online. I found this website and several others that lead me to believe that this could be my problem. I also researched my insurance company’s policy and they would pay for explantation if I had: baker grade 3 or higher capsular contracture and/or signs of infection and a letter of medical necessity from my surgeon. I consulted with 2 surgeons, and chose one. The surgeon wrote a letter stating that I had baker grade 3 in right breast and capsulectomy was necessary. The insurance company did not approve. I appealed and wrote a three page letter tying in all the tests, nerve blocks and procedures that I had done over the course of 2 years. But, the big sell was that I presented it as a cost savings which is what the insurance company understands. I wrote that I still had three more tests, a nerve block scheduled in the next month that would cost 3x as much as having the explant performed on both breasts. I sent the letter, and proceeded to call and speak with member services everyday for three weeks. They approved my surgery, and paid 100%!! My surgeon could not believe it. He was so proud of me. 2 days after the explant, I was 100% pain free. I have began to get my life back, and couldn’t be happier. I also help counsel women at his office that are in the same position. Dr. Robert Knowling of Huntsville, AL performed my procedure. He did the most amazing job. Him and his staff were so compassionate…they were a god send. I would love to see his name added to this list of explant surgeons.
To all women thinking of doing this…..do it!!! it will change your life for the better.

Do you know a doctor in Northern California, most of the Doctors I have seen don’t want to even discuss what silicone implant rupture does to your body they just want to replace the implants. Feeling really frustrated…Cosmetic Doctors especially do not want to admit what implant rupture can do to a persons health. My implant were ruptured for at least (5) years even before I had (2) breast biopsies (those Doctors said implants were fine when in fact they were ruptured) after I had my implants replaced silicone floating in my body for (5) years Doctor replacing the implants could not get all the silicone out…Now I am have a lot of health issues…Need a doctor that understands….

      Hi Priscilla,
Yes, doctors and plastic surgeons will not acknowledge illness from implants as implants are big business and make a lot of money for them. Here is a list of Explant surgeons with a number of them in California: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explant-surgeons/. However, I am not sure that will be of much help to you. Because your case is complicated, previous implants which were ruptured and leaked silicone and then re-implanted without being cleaned up, I suggest you contact and arrange to see Dr. Susan Kolb in Atlanta, Georgia for removal of your present implants and for treatment of silicone toxicity from your previous implants. If anyone can help you, it will be her. I am here for you anytime and if you decide to see someone in California, please contact me again and I will forward you Dr. Kolbs silicone treatment protocol. In Victoria, British Columbia, we are fortunate to have Dr Kenneth Smith. He is a perfectionist and removes the implants en bloc. He charges a bit more but he is worth it. He is doing my explant Tuesday. He has done 5 of my friends implants, explants and other surgeries and everyone raves about him.

Hello there, I had a double mastectomy 9-2012, with expanders, then implants in 12-2012. I’ve had RAPID change in my hormones, experiencing hair growth, major fatigue, hip and foot pain, major depression, major hair loss before and after… scalp pain, and brain fog… eye floaters, systemic candida, and major digestive issues….. oh extremely dry skin too. I have cohesive gel implants. There is no breast tissue left, but I am beginning to not care, and just want a life… a healthy one…

Do you think I’m imagining this? I’ll be 31 tomorrow, and think explants are what I want for my birthday… ha! Not sure how to deal with all this properly. God bless all you lovely ladies, sorry with all my heart this is our reality and hope to experience the light at the end of this sickness tunnel.

      Hi Sarah,
Let me assure you that you are not imagining your illness. Cohesive gel implants are very toxic to your body, more toxic than the older style liquid silicone implants because cohesive gel contain more aggressive chemicals which are used in making the gel cohesive. Also in some of the recent gel implants the shell seems to have very bad chemicals similar to Teflon chemicals which are known to be poisonous. Silicone contains between 30 and 40 different cytotoxic and neurotoxic chemicals that kill our cells and is a known endocrine disruptor which messes up our glands which control our hormones and numerous body processes which cause many symptoms. Did you have chemo, radiation or drugs as part of your treatment? Also sounds like you could be dealing with some heavy metal poisoning which is common in breast implant illness. The first and most important step is a proper explant. Please read the Explant page here: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explantation/ and the World Wide Surgeon page here: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explant-surgeons/ for a surgeon near you. If you tell me where you live perhaps I can give you some more leads. You can return to your placing surgeon and request removal of your implants with a Total Capsulectomy due to illness and see what he/she says. If they acknowledge illness due to implants and their procedure includes removal of all capsule tissue then I may trust him if he can give you recommendations from other women he has also removed implants from. Many plastic surgeons refuse to acknowledge illness from implants or remove implants because it reinforces that they are causing harm to women which they are. Most of their revenue comes from implants and they don’t want to lose their cash cow. Some plastic surgeons will even attempt to steer you elsewhere and many women are misdiagnosed with a series of autoimmune diseases when it is their implants all along. After you explant you will need to detox. If you have had chemo or radiation, I would like you to research Gerson Therapy which I believe will be very beneficial to your detox process. I am here for you every step of the way and please write me anytime. Nicole

Hi, can anyone tell me a good explant surgeon in Illinios or near it. I have had silicone smooth implants since last October and have had, night sweats, missed and irregular periods, weight gain, always cold, swollen lymph nodes in neck, GI issues, swollen thighs and legs are tired and sore, hand cramps, extream fatigue, feels like someone is lightly strangling me, face is swollen, Puffy eyes. List goes on. No one can figure out what’s wrong with me. All my blood tests come back normal. Could this be my breast implants? How likely will these symptoms go away if I get them removed? I feel like no one can tell me what is going on. I am beyond stressed out because I have always been healthy and active and now I am so unhealthy and only 33 years old. This started 6 months after my implants were put in.

      Hi Lisa,
Yes, your illness and your symptoms are from your breast implants. I hear from so many women who just got implants and are terribly ill. There are some very harsh chemicals poisoning ladies in the latest series of implants. After a proper explant and detoxification you will eventually recover. In Illinois, I can recommend Dr. Geoffrey Fenner located at 1000 Central Street, Suite 840, Evanston, Illinois, US, 60201 for explant. Nicole

I have been treated at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and found CFS, Fibromyalgia, Adrenal Insufficiency, Elevetaed ACE levels but none of the medicine make it better. One Dr. at Mayo Clinic and my primary physician feel it is my implants that are poisoning my body. I have had saline implants for 11 years. After researching, I agree with both Dr.’s and want to have the explant. Would appreciate your help with this matter thank you.

Hi Sherri just wondering if you found anybody to explant your implants I also live in Minnesota and I am looking to be explanted and Mayo believes implants are making me sick also after quite a few of being very ill ! I seen a plastic surgeon in Shakopee and he basically told me I watch too much television and he doesn’t believe in implant illness and has seen many women with implants that are 20-30 yrs old and are doing just fine lol and he goes on telling me women don’t usually take them out unless they are upgrading and tells me how disfigured I’m gonna be ugh !!! I feel so defeated when I left his office and I have been soooo very sick my worst problem the past year is severe joint pain and issues I’ve seen 3 rheumatologists for the mayo who have turned me away telling me they can’t help me then my doctor referred me to another rheumatologist in Edina and she was very sympathetic cause the mayo keeps putting me on high doses of steroids for all the inflammation I have going and she offered to put me on methotrexate which is very toxic and my body can’t handle any toxins at all I have to constantly detox so I kindly declined them ! Was interested in if you found anybody that maybe could help me ! Thanks Laurie

Here is a list of explant surgeons gathered so far from various sources: http://healingbreastimplantillness.com/explant-surgeons/. Dr Joseph M. Gryskiewicz on this list is from Minnesota and located at Burnsville Medical Building, 303 E Nicollet Boulevard, Suite 330, Burnsville, Minnesota, US 55337. I hope this helps. Sherri may have a recommendation for you as well. Your autoimmune symptoms are definitely from your implants and once you explant and detox you will most likely recover your health. Don’t listen to plastic surgeons who warn of disfigurement after explant. Most ladies are happy with their breasts after explant and the feeling of relief once the implants are removed is wonderful. I am here for you throughout your recovery. Nicole

I went to Dr. Gryskiwicz for implants that got a double bubble and bottoming out in both breast. He redid them four to five years later to fix the issue and it came back. I hate my implants and now I have pain in my chest. I want them out. The Dr. couldn’t get it right with two tries. I asked for my implants when getting them removed and replaced the first time and he or someone in his office said they don’t do that and did not give them to me. I’m pretty sure he might have left my capsules in to, but can’t verify that for sure.

Hi there, I was also seen at mayo three years ago and they had no knowledge regarding implants causing my illness so I have not gone back. Just curious what doctors you saw and if you live nearby?

I finally had my implants removed after my third consult in Woodbury, MN. After no improvement in six months I went to see Dr Kolb in Atlanta for another surgery and found out that the capsule was not removed like I was told in MN. I sent the Dr in Woodbury, MN a letter and actually was refunded my money. I wish I would have found a different doctor the first time, but it was so hard and I was desperate.

Thank You Ad Min for this forum:

I Recently had my explant surgery.. It was the best decision I ever made…. Just wished I had done so sooner… as I had them for close to 22 years…

The MRI of the breast showed one had ruptured but had not left the capsule ( Scar tissue ) holding the implants , but had over time, moved from under the breast tissue upwards, my surgeon Dr. Avron Lipshitz, was the only one out of many ,I consulted with , whom was able to, straightforward with exam , explain this …

I had consulted with many ( 7 ) local Surgeons , all of whom wanted to drastically remove and perform a lift…. It was but one Doctor whom , straight forward , not only assured me that it was necessary to remove, but that they would ( based on my small implants ) that my breasts would naturally lift some ,upon healing, and that it would be best to see the post surgery results prior to any further decisions.

During the procedure, he started first with the ruptured implant,, removed scar tissue and completely washed the area., moving onto the other breast,, even though the MRI showed all was well and it was intact was leaking. As the Doctor kindly put it, was oozing , and silicone bleeding everywhere… this one was highly concentrated on as well, rinsing , removing any residue, he had not seen anything quite like it.. and no way tell the make of the implant and could estimate the size 150 – 170 cc .

The Sooner you remove and start the healing process the better, detox your system a must afterwards…. as I noticed an increase in fatigue , stomach issues and ease of common colds and viruses..

My surgery lasted less than hour both , Was in by 1pm and walking out by 230pm after anesthesia .

Good Luck , and note sooner better than later

    Hi Admin,

I’ve had silicone implants for two years prior to my explantation which was one moth ago. About one year after I got them, I started experiencing symptoms- brain fog, rashes on my breasts, what appeared to be balls of plastic popping out and confusion/difficulty learning and thinking. During this time, I started a new job which was straightforward and should have been easy to learn- it’s important to note that I’d never had any problems with learning or memory prior to receiving my implants. In short, it proved nearly impossible for me to learn the ropes of the job, and now I am jobless and facing the issue of being able to not only get but actually keep a new job which is clearly a problem with my brainfog and memory/learning issues. Since my explantation, I have continued to have these symptoms and my brainfog, memory issues and concentration may have gotten even worse. I requested en-bloc surgical removal of my implants, but after the surgery , I was informed that Dr. Rosenberg wasn’t able to remove all of the capsule or scar tissue because it could damage the surrounding tissue and injure me. He said I would be fine anyway, but I am still dealing with brainfog and memory/focus issues. Is it advisable for me to seek out another surgical procedure to deal with any leftover tissue, or would this be a bad idea due to potential injury ?

Hi Kathryn, Just a few questions first. Were your silicone implants textured or smooth? If you don’t know for sure, you need to find out from Dr. Rosenberg. How old are you and where are you located? It is always best to remove the capsule tissue and there are never cases when removing capsules will damage the surrounding tissues except when the doctor lacks the surgical skill to remove the capsules or the implants are placed sub-muscular and a small amount of tissue is stuck on a rib. Doctors only say it will hurt you or does not need to be removed because they are either not skilled enough surgeons (not all doctors placing implants are skilled surgeons or even plastic surgeons, some are just regular doctors with cosmetic training to place implants and no surgical skills) to remove it properly and would rather just pull out the implant and not deal with the surgical skill/time/expense required to do a proper explant. It is well known in the plastic surgery/surgery industry that 100 per cent of the capsule tissue should be removed during an explant for many reasons good reasons. Leaving capsule tissue can lead to more scar tissue, pain, calcification and shows up on mammograms which makes it hard to detect breast cancer. If your implants were textured the capsule tissue absolutely needs to be removed even now. The fibres in textured implants flake off into the capsule tissue and can cause serious health problems.

Now having said all that, if your smooth silicone implants were only two years old and not ruptured or leaking, your capsules should not be too contaminated. Many women who have their implants removed without removing capsules have completely recovered. The difference to you is leaving the capsule tissue prolongs the recovery and makes the symptoms more severe as your body has to deal with detoxing the capsule tissue and the chemicals within the capsule tissue.

Kathryn you are only one month post explant and in the harder stages of detox so I don’t want you to feel like you are not going to get better. You are going to get better! Silicone chemicals and heavy metals are serious endocrine disruptors and really mess up our endocrine system and dry out our glands. Please read my detox page and follow the detox diet and take the basic supplements I suggest. There are additional things that help intense brain fog: Pregnenolone – it is cholesterol and the precursor to all our hormones and is proven to help brain fog. Eat healthy fats – eat all kinds of healthy oils and fats, omega 3,6,9, fish oils, flax oil, avocados, coconut oil, raw organic butter, organic eggs, olive oils, saturated fat from meat. The brain is made of fats and in order to heal, it needs lots of fats. Drink lots of water to keep the brain well hydrated. Drink a cup or two of organic coffee in the morning. Coffee is well known to detox chemicals and heavy metals from the brain. Nicole

Try Dr. William L. Dowden of 1725 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, Kentucky 40504. I found his name on an explant site but you still need to do your due diligence with him. Interview him, take your time, ask lots of questions, make sure you understand the procedure in detail and it is in fact a an enbloc style/total capsulectomy which ensures all the capsule tissue is removed for your best recovery. Take another family member with you to the appointment. A state away is Dr. Lu-Jean Feng at 1 Mt. Sinai Drive, Cleveland, Ohio, 44106. She is highly recommended by many but expensive. Best wishes to you in your recovery.

I had my implant surgery in 1991 silicone shell ,silcone filled .A few weeks after surgery the Dr. Did a closed capsuleotimity to break the scar tissue that was forming around the implants. I felt the right side pop inside me. A few months later I started with a lot of strange symptoms and they continued to get worse. After a year and a half of worsening symptoms I begged the plastic surgeon that out them in to take them out. After trying to reassure me that my problems were not caused by my implantsfor so long he finally agreed.. He removed the left side just by pulling it out but the right side had ruptured so he just sucked what little bit he could out.. I still have the capsule in both breasts and a fair amount of silicone i’m sure. I have continued to be sick for many years trying numerous things to heal my self. Is there anything I can do ?

    Dear Admin
I have had my implants removed 3 weeks ago, I had the implants for 4 months (Silicone textured, teardrop) and after the second month I started feeling unwell, fog brain, tingling, etc. Unfortunately the surgeon told me that because the capsule was so thin he didn’t remove it. Is it possible that I can heal even with the capsule inside of me, I hope so because I don’t want to undergo another surgery. I haven’t felt any improvement yet. Can you recommend me a doctor that can help me here in Sydney Australia with the detox process, because my surgeon has always denied that my problems can be caused by the implant. Please what can I do to fast the detox process? Any vitamins or supplements recommended?

    Thanks for your help

Hi Rabida – I just had an explant 2 days ago and my PS told me the same thing. I’ve only had my implants for 6 months and he told me the capsule was so thin that it could cause more damage to the surrounding tissue to remove so he removed what he could. I was wondering the same thing as you were. I’ve been looking for any suggested supplements as well.

      Hi Rabida,

As your implants were in your body so few months, an En-Bloc style explant isn’t necessary as the capsule tissue would not have had time to develop. Please see my Detoxification page for instructions on detox, vitamins and supplements that will help you. If you need extra support, look for a Naturopath Doctor in your area. I am here for you at any time.

          Hi Vicki,

Here are three surgeons in Australia and hopefully one is near you; Dr. Susan O’Mahony in Brisbane, Dr. Peter Haertsch in New South Wales and Dr. Eddy Dona in New South Wales.
